On
tour with Plankeye
by Katie Randall In support of their recent CD Relocation, rock group Plankeye hit the road for a national spring tour of clubs and colleges. The band puts on an electric set of old and new material and holds the crowd in the palm of their hands from the moment they come out on stage. At an early stop on the tour in March at The Chi in Memphis, Tennessee, the guys ripped through an hour-long set of their catchy beats mixed with passionate vocals. They opened with a guitar solo and then took the crowd on a roller coaster of fast and slow songs. Hits that stood out included "Drift Away," "Playground," "I Can't Complain," and "It's Been So Very Long." Audience members seemed to appreciate the chemistry of original band members Eric Balmer and Luis Garcia. The two musicians even shared their personal friendships on stage by discussing the meaning behind songs. Overall the evening was enjoyable and uplifting. The band encored with their smash "Goodbye," followed by the powerful rocker "Someday."
