Take Me to the River
Artist:  Al Green
Label:  the Right Stuff
Length:  2 Discs/ 30 Tracks

The one and only Al Green's latest collection of hits chronicles the majority of his mainstream music career, while highlighting his smooth vocals and sweet love songs.  This double disc collection goes through Green's most familiar songs, a few live tracks, and even a few lower profile tunes to give listeners a complete look at the man behind the music.

Speaking of behind the music, Green would be a good choice for VH1's popular show by the same title, which takes a look at the various artists' personal and professional lives.  Green has had turmoil and triumph in each potion of his life and he went from the top of the charts to getting back on the right path with God after all of the fame and recognition he built up.

Some tracks on the disc hint at his spiritual seeking, like "Love and Happiness," "God Blessed Our Love," and the epic title track that seemed to foreshadow his rebirth.  On a lighter note, songs like "Let's Stay Together," "I'm Still in Love With You," and "For the Good Times," also stand out as being some familiar staples of the 70s.

Green also released a HarperCollins autobiography of the same title to let fans know the true story of his personal life.  The book also chronicles his career milestones, like his nine Grammy awards and his 1995 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
