Raw Material
Artist: Mars ILL
Label: Uprok Records
Length: 19 tracks

Hip-Hop seems like it's finally starting to be accepted in the "Christian" market with the recent and near future releases from several hip-hop acts. Mars ILL is one of those bands that makes you happy that its finally being accepted.

This release combines what is right about hip-hop; smooth lyrical flow, nice DJ work, and brilliant wordplay; to make an album that is pleasing to the hip-hop heads.

The album opens with a combination song and shout out compilation from Mars ILL and a variety of fellow MCs and DJs. The second track, "Sphere of Hip-Hop Pt. 2" is a great track that goes through what the true hip-hop community as a whole.

"Love's Not" dismisses the traditional interpretation of love portrayed in pop songs but brings it back to the core that God created. The track calls the listener back to a true definition of love through saying not what love is, but rather what love is not.

The disc features many of the traditional hip-hop standards; shout outs, instrumental break downs, some scratching and fine lyrical flow. The album is a fine introduction to a crew that deserves a listen or two
