Nowhere Else but Here
Artist: Matthew Perryman Jones
Label: Indie

I love the idea of this CD. Instead of bland platitudes, Matthew Perryman Jones offers honest thoughts about the trials of life in an imperfect world, and the lyrics work.

The problem with this project is the music. Not that it's bad, or poorly performed--it's just uninspired. Granted, singer/songwriter projects tend to have a unified sound, which is fine if that unified sound includes interesting melodies, harmonies, and/or rhythms, but I honestly couldn't tell one track from the next most of the time.

Matthew Perryman Jones and those who worked with him on the recording obviously have technical skill. If future outings can bring the music anywhere close to the quality of the lyrics, he'll be a force to be reckoned with.
