Free To Dream Artist: Regi Stone Label: Insync Length: 12 tracks/53:48 Nashville recording artist Regi Stone released his latest album, Free to Dream, with a unique approach. Called the "Hands of Hope" Project, Insync Records produced 20,000 copies of his single "In God's Hands" on compact disc for free distribution to anyone who asked. The song tells of God's enduring presence with us through the worst trials and is penned by veteran songwriters Niles Borop and Tim Akers. In light of the recent events in America, it has met with a very positive response. The remainder of Stone's album is an exercise in various flavors of contemporary Nashville pop. "No Turning Back" has a Bible-belt soul sound, while "On the Rock I Stand" leans toward gospel-rock a la 4HIM. Stone's voice is reminiscent of Newsong's Michael O'Brien. It has an inspirational, soothing quality and fits the tracks like a glove. The disc is comprised of mostly mellow tunes that sing of faith, hope, God's love. Interestingly, none are written by Stone, but he instead borrows from well-known names such as Peter Penrose, Marty Funderburk, and Niles Borop. Stone recruits ace studio players for the tracks, including Gary Lunn on bass and Jerry McPherson on guitar. Overall, the album is well-produced, with a who's who of songwriters and musicians participating in the project. Unfortunately, without major label and radio support, it could get overlooked like a diamond in the rough. There are probably many people who would be ministered to by Regi Stone's music who may never get a chance to hear it. Zik Jackson 10/14/2001
