Mueller's
Musings: A Look at July Releases
July has some interesting
releases, both from the indie world, as well as the world of top-name music
acts. The bigger name artists with releases this month include Oasis,
Sonic Youth, Counting Crows, Robert Plant, and two of the most anticipated
releases of the year: Bruce Springsteen's The Rising on July 30th and Dave
Matthews Band's Busted Stuff on the 16th.
Lesser known artists with
new discs this month include the long-awaited Daybreak from Beth Orton
on the 30th , her first album since 1999's beautiful Central Reservation.
The remaining members of Morphine are back under the name of The Twinemen
with a self-title disc on the 9th. On the 16th look out for the critically
acclaimed Highly Involved from The Vines, while Mark Olson releases December's
Child on the 23rd, featuring wife Victoria Williams and former Jayhawk's
bandmate Gary Louris. And of course don't forget the Silent Planet's
compilation tribute to Beach Boy Brian Wilson, Making God Smile.
Also, two discs of note that
are already out: the new EP from Cush, the first in what is intended to
be a three-part series of spirituals, and Michael Pritzl's new side-project,
The Gravity Show with the disc Fabulous Like You.
