In The Quiet Hours
Cinemascape
Artist: Phil Keaggy
Label: Word Artisan
Tracks: 14/ 56:04
             16/ 54:51

A few years ago Word records tried an experiment, they formed a label called Unison Records to release product into stores such as Target and K-Mart. The label never saw the light of day, but five albums were recorded one by Mike Roe and a four disc set by Phil Keaggy called "Music To Paint By". Word Artisan has just released two new discs by Mr. Keaggy called "In The Quiet Hours" & "Cinemascapes" The tunes on these two discs are a best of from the Unison set plus 5 new tunes. What we have is a great compilation of music from a seasoned artist. The music on these two discs is not some young hotshot guitar ace trying to show off his licks and mesmerize us all with his prowess. Instead what we have is an artist who is a master at his craft and is completely comfortable with his abilities to express his feelings through his guitar.

The music on these albums would fall into the category of either New Age or Light Jazz. I love rock n roll passionately and have seen Phil tear it up with a good tight band more than once. I look forward to seeing it happen again in the future. Yet the music on these albums, as the titles imply, are of a quieter nature. Now don't get me wrong, there is some hot playing here, I love to watch this guy with or without a group. In my humble opinion, Phil Keaggy is a guitar player of the same status of someone like Robert Fripp. He is a man who is proficiently using the gift that God has given him. There are a good number of good guitarists in our industry today yet Phil Keaggy is truly the Master's Musician. Pick up these two albums and sit back and enjoy a professional at work.
