Obvious
Artist: Plus One
Label: Atlantic Records
Length: 12 tracks/43:32 minutes

Plus One has had a lot of success in the past. They were the top selling Christian artist for 2000, were honored as the 2001 GMA New Artist Of The Year, played in 62 cities on their first tour (with Jaci Velazquez), headlined their own 40-city tour, appeared on two TV shows and a talk show, and created a song for the Pokemon 2000: The Power of One Soundtrack. And all this success will no doubt continue with the sophomore release, Obvious, from this Christian boy band! But can you really call them a boy band in this album? In some songs sure, but in others…I don’t think so.

On the songs "Let Me Be the One," "You," "Start To Fly," "Calling Down an Angel," "Forever," and "Who Am I" (four of which are ballads), you will hear the Plus One you are used to. The Plus One from the album that soared to RIAA gold album status in less then 10 months. However, in the rest of the songs on this album, Plus One has done something different. Nate, Jason, Jeremy, Nathan, and Gabe have decided to throw in a much more aggressive rock sound (a decision that I have to say was a good move). As you will see in the opening track, "Camouflage," and tracks "Use Me," "Under the Influence," "I Don’t Care," "Kick Me," and "Going Crazy." So with this musical change, Plus One will no doubt pick up some new fans, and it should also please past fans.

Then on a lyrical side of things, you will find that ten of the twelve songs have at least one of the guys co-writing on them. Which, you could say, makes "Obvious" superior over "The Promise" from a lyrical standpoint.

With catchy music and great lyrics, "Obvious" is an amazing album! This was a release I’ve been looking forward to for a while now, and it was certainly not a let down. I’ve been listening to it non-stop since I received it. I highly recommend it! Go and pick it up today!
