  Quench
Artist: Quench
Label: Elevation
Length: 4 tracks/13.32

The genesis of Quench has been a complicated one. Forming from the ashes of the final lineup of speed-folksters Why? and briefly continuing under that name, the band launched their new identity about a year ago and have quickly been snapped up by new label Elevation.

The sound here bears little semblance of the old Why? sound, with the band wisely choosing to forge a new identity of their own since their name change. That sound is clearly pop/rock, drawing influences from Ash and the Foo Fighters. The songs don't yet have the strong pop hooks of recent Ash material but are clearly headed in that direction, though the Eddie Vedder-isms in principle songwriter Jamie Hill's vocals may need to be softened slightly to add a more commercial feel to the material.

This is clearly an early release. The songs come across fairly well but have yet to achieve the focus and clarity that the sound the band are aiming for thrives on. There's much to build on and we'll try to keep you in touch.
