Artist: Shana Morrison
Label: Vanguard Records
Length: 13 tracks

Anyone familiar with her guest appearances with her father particularly on his A Night In San Francisco album and on the tribute album No Prima Donna will know that Van Morrison’s daughter Shan has a voice and one that is brighter and purer than her father’s grizzly grumpy growl. The question on this her first full-length album is has she found her voice. The first few tracks seem too safe, too nice, and almost has you asking about whether her posterior could compete for tabloid space with Kylie or is her dad wealthy enough to pay the costs in the copyright case with Texas. Then suddenly half way through she breaks free and the rawer blues of "Day After Yes," the quirky groove of "Cherry On Top," or Gospel romp "of God Must Love Me" set up signposts for what might yet be.  The highlight is her duet with dad on his "Sometimes We Cry," one of Van’s best compositions of recent years. All in all this is a worthy debut on Vanguard but the direction she takes is going to be vital to the longevity of the journey.
