The Beatles
A Hard Day’s Night DVD
(Miramax Home Entertainment)

MPI’s initial DVD release of A Hard Day’s Night sold out quickly, and has become an expensive collectible. Pity those who dumped their paychecks just to have the film, because Miramax’s new set burns the old version and dances on the ashes.  Naturally, there’s a newly remastered version of Richard Lester‘s campy 92 minute film, complete with easily located chapter stops at musical segments.  While no band interviews are included, the supplemental features ontain hours of material with the filmmakers, including Lester and musical director Sir George Martin.  Klaus Voorman is interviewed in a featurette called They and I Have Memories.  Such a Clean Old Man is a retrospective on the life of Wilfrid Brambell, the actor who played Paul McCartney’s troublemaking grandfather.  The digitally restored soundtrack includes seven songs from the album A Hard Day’s Night, along with “All My Loving” (With/Meet the Beatles) and “She Loves You.”  (www.miramax.com)
