Spider-Man: The Return of the Green Goblin DVD
(Buena Vista Home Entertainment)

Buena Vista's second animated Spider-Man DVD is released to coincide with the DVD release of 2002's live action blockbuster.  The four episodes included in the main program feature the same villain as the film; namely, the Green Goblin.  The Goblin's character as presented in "The Spot," "Goblin War!," "Turning Point," and "Guilty" is more consistent with his maniacal Marvel comic book version than Willem Dafoe's vengeful screen depiction, however.  Like the movie, the story line includes a chapter in which the Goblin discovers Spider-Man's secret identity as Peter Parker, and kidnaps Parker's girlfriend, Mary Jane Watson.  Other featured villains include the Hobgoblin and the Kingpin (a villain to appear in the forthcoming Daredevil film).

So, that's the scoop for younger fans of the mid-90's animated series.  The treats for those kids' parents are the two bonus episodes from the classic, campy 1967 animated Spider-Man series.  "The Triumph of Dr. Octopus" and "The Return of the Green Goblin" are included in their entirety, boasting one of the greatest cartoon theme songs ever written.  Indefatiguable Spider-Man co-creator and octagenarian Stan Lee introduces each episode, and bonus features include extended footage of Stan's Soapbox talks.
