Artist: By the Tree Label: Fervent Records Time: 10 tracks Root is an effort from By the Tree to return to origins, or roots, both spiritually and musically. While "Get Back to the Root of it All" is mostly a fit-for-radio song, the rest of the songs on the CD are not. Root has brought the musicality and spirituality back to By the Tree with grittier pop rock and very strong spiritual lyrics. Although not as much pop influence as many would prefer, Root still deserves a round of applause for driving it in there and keeping it upbeat and moving. Strong music done right is the emphasis of this CD; if you like By the Tree with a little bit more grit to it you should find this CD interesting. Len Nash 8/31/2003
