Him
Artist: Glenn Hansen Label:Self-released Time: 12 tracks/52:09 min. Him is that rare album which despite its obviously humble beginnings and austere origins has a focus that ultimately overshadows any perceived flaws. That focus of course is the LORD. Hansen is a talented musician, no doubt, and his blood sweat and tears in creating this album (bar playing drums, he did everything!) is evident but the best of intentions never ever produced great music. This self-produced, self-released disc is no vanity project – Hansen has consistently poured heart and soul into every track to deliver provoking lyrics and sophisticated music that often recalls the neo-prog rock of Porcupine Tree, Spock’s Beard and Marillion. Hansen invests his life (thoughts, emotions, experiences) into Him which gives the songs a refreshing personal touch. Issues range for the pursuit of God’s presence – the atmospheric _Lost_, the plight of abused children - the incongruously poppy Nothing, the loss of a loved one – the simply gorgeous Safe, the schemes of the enemy – the insistent Some Things Never Change and the imminent return of the LORD – the joyous What a Day. I must confess that Him has confounded and exceeded all my expectations.Iinalt is an inspiring and uplifting effort that deserves your attention, kind reader. Kevin Matthews 6/8/2003
