Artist: Infradig Label: Independent Tracks: 7/35:42 Much like "The Yardbirds" or "King Crimson" in the days of yore, the personal of Infradig changes from album to album. Yet also like these groups the music of this Chattanooga based group just keeps getting better and better. With this their third release, the band is appearing in the format of a quartet. The group consists of David Kaufmann on electric and upright basses, Carl Cadwell on keyboards, Andrew Hobbs on guitar and violin and Joshua Caleb Green on drums and percussion. After seeing the band in action at this summer's Cornerstone festival I can only hope that these guys are around for many more years to come. At the heart of "Infradig" is the drumming of Joshua Caleb Green whose playing style reminds me very much of Bill Bruford and the work he has done with Earthworks his jazz ensemble. Although for me at least the highlight of an Infradig record is the drumming, let me state categorically that Carl, David, and Andrew are experts on their own instruments and the band would not be the same without them. Once again, "Infradig has released a collection of instrumental pieces that would fit into the classification of experimental jazz funk. Just when you think that you have a song pegged they take you off in a whole 'nother direction. These four young men have put together an extraordinary collection of tunes that beg to be listened to over and over again. Because they don't have a big record company backing them up, the fan base on "Infradig" will largely be word of mouth from those who have seen them perform live. If you have a chance to see them live, do not pass up the experience. I just wish these guys were from the New York area so I could see them more often. Get this album, tell your friends to get this album; they will thank you for it. Check out their web site out at www.infradig.net , you'll be glad you did.
