  It's Cold Out Here
Artist: Luke Geraty
Label: Syntax Records
Length: 20 tracks at 73:28 minutes/seconds

It's Cold Out Here opens with floating airy chords and affirmations to "open eyes" to the fact that "we need love." But the CD soon comes down to the streets for a cool beat mix and Geraty's skilled raps. A good emcee has impeccable rhythm, coordinated enunciation, and something meaningful to enunciate. Geraty is a crafty social commentator with a gospel perspective and a talent for purposed prose. Many of his subjects are earth-y and troubling, but Geraty's take on them is kingdom-y. The record's music and stories are compelling and bouncy. Some songs are weighty, some are light, practically all are interesting and satisfying. Even a good thing can wear thin, however, and twenty tracks may be a bit too long for this project.  Mostly a strong effort.
