Split
EP
Artists: Movies with Heroes & In Clover Label: Theory 8 Records Length: 8 tracks From Nashville-based Theory 8 Records comes a split EP from two bands that dance around in the indie rock vein. First on the CD is Movies with Heroes. Their brand of emotion-laced rock is easily comparable to Jimmy Eat World, but not necessarily identical. The four-piece band has a tight sound and has penned some good songs. Album opener “Someday” is rather easy to relate to: “She says I’m always living in someday. Someday, someday. I can’t wander forever in someday, and I’m sorry if tonight is lonely when I’m far away in someday.” The chorus on the fourth and final song from the band, “The Last Shall Be First” does a good job of ingraining itself into the listener’s mind: “Waiting for salvation in an envelope, spending all my hours by the telephone. If you thought we’d give up by now… oh, no.” In Clover takes up the second half of the split CD. Their sound is relatively similar to Movies with Heroes. The main difference is that the lead vocalist sounds weaker. In Clover doesn’t do much to grab the listener with their rather average indie rock sound. The band’s strength is their lyrics. “Comical Is My Faith for the Living” admits with regret that, “I can’t believe in anybody, anymore and I’m sorry to say that I lost my faith today.” This disc sports some good songs and some average ones. All in all, Movies with Heroes comes out a bit better than In Clover but both bands have some potential. Movies with Heroes: Trae Cadenhead 1/12/2003 |
