Deck
the Halls, Bruise Your Hand
Artist: Relient K Label: Gotee Records Length: 10 tracks / 26:59 min The crazy guys from Relient K never cease to amuse us with their lighthearted brand of punk-pop. This time around they offer their own spin on the Christmas story with their brand-new Deck the Halls, Bruise Your Hand EP, a short but sweet stocking stuffer that’s teeming with festive takes on seasonal favorites (“Deck the Halls,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”), traditional carols (“Angels We Have Heard on High,” “Away in a Manger”), and one or two wacky originals (“Santa Clause is Thumbing to Town”). Don’t expect these energetic rockers to bring your family together for warm moments of fireside rejoicing--the boys’ operatic yet ever-so-punkish rendition of Handel’s “Messiah” is likely to cause an opposite reaction in your grandmother--, but please do pick up the album if what you’re looking for is something to get you up and ready to celebrate (and I do mean that literally) the season.
