Hold
Out Your Hands EP
Artist: Trent Thomason Label: Highya Music Length: 7/30:35 Trent Thomason, recently the keyboardist for Petra (Double Tak_), is a singer/songwriter who makes a splash in the power pop area with Hold Out Your Hands. Like most bands of this genre, Thomason’s sound is along the lines of Journey, Kansas, Petra in the pre-John Schlitt days, and occasionally Matthew Sweet. “Watching Over Me” is a combination musically of Petra and Richard Page. The title track is a little more jazzy, while done over a reggae backbeat. “Hallelujah” and “When I Fall” are in the late 80’s/early 90’s Petra mode, while “That You Should Know (Only You)” was actually written during that time frame. The CD closes with “Ear Candy,” a funky instrumental that showcases Steve Smith’s guitar, which is reminiscent of Neil Schon (Journey, HASS, Bad English). Hold Out Your Hands is aimed at the adult contemporary crowd, and fans of Bryan Duncan, older Petra, and Clay Crosse should be pleased with this album. Brian A. Smith 1/12/2003
