Visions
of the Father_
Artist: Imisi Label: Lion of Zion URL: <http://www.imisi.com>, <http://www.lionofzion.com> Time: 14 tracks Produced by Mark Mohr (Christafari) and Quino (Big Mountain), Imisi's new "gospel" reggae CD, Visions of the Father, illustrates an art form that is on the rise -- reggae. For years and years, reggae has evolved into an art form that has influenced many artists, be it rock, pop, R&B, or hip-hop. Reggae is on the playing field of mainstream music, with such artists as P.O.D. incorporating elements of reggae into their music, not to mention the huge onslaught of hip-hop and pop that use reggae beats as a norm. Visions of the Father begins with the "hit" song, "Superstar," which is radio-friendly reggae. As the CD progresses, Imisi explores all sorts of territories, moving into a soulful group of vocals from one setting to another. It explores pure reggae and also reggae-backed R&B. The vocals on this CD rival that of any other pop, reggae, gospel, or soul music. Lyrically, Visions of the Father is a "worship" album -- just this time, reggae-style. Another ingredient that sharpens this album is the crisp and solid production. All of these elements -- with a looseness still in there -- make Visions of the Father a must-have for anyone who may need or want reggae music. Len Nash 2/29/2004
