To Let
Artist: Carol Laula
Label: Acoustic Roots

On To Let, Carol Laula comes across as a Glaswegian Kate Campbell going rootsie and stripped back acoustic to allow her voice deliver with precision and passion. What she delivers is a wide array of songs from a wide array of songwriters. From The Goo Goo Dolls to Brooks Williams by way of Blue Nile, Macy Gray, Leonard Cohen and David Byrne is quite a journey. With her guitarist, producer and general encourager Stuart MacLeod excelling on guitar, Laula reinvents songs to prismatic effect, allowing whole new readings of the familiar. Particularly beneficiaries of the new colors cast are Martin Stephenson’s "Crocodile Cryer," the aforementioned Goo Goo Dolls’ "Iris" and Macy Gray’s "I Try." Tasty reinvention!
