Celebrate
Mistakes
Artist: Number One Gun Label:Floodgate Records and Salvage Records Time:11 tracks/ Celebrate Mistakes is a well-crafted indie rock effort by new Floodgate Records artist Number One Gun. Although the first few songs lost me with their radio perfection, this CD still caught my ears and pulled me in during the middle of the album. The balance is what makes this cd memorable. Whether you're the made-for-commercial-radio rock/emo fan, the indie rock fan looking for a little looseness, or the underground perfectionist emo fan, you'd probably dig this band. The first few songs ("Starting Line," "Celebrate Mistakes," "You Fail Sometimes," and "On & On") are radio made. The next three songs ("The Last Time," "Invest In You," and "These Things") come from an indie sound. Then, the last four ("Hear This," "Get Up [The Way I Feel]," "This Is All We Know," and "Today Is Described") go into a sappy Further Seems Forever feeling. Not a groundbreaking album but well balanced. Fans of The Juliana Theory, Further Seems Forever, Acceptance, or any of the music styles named in this review should go and check out Celebrate Mistakes, a new release by a good, solid band, Number One Gun. Seems logical that young
Christians weaned on the emo-punk wave should choose the genre as its weapon
of choice. Well, it’s either that or U2, I suppose. It just smacks too
much of uniformity for my liking. Take Number One Gun. What distinguishes
them from the multitude of emo bands currently signed to labels like Vagrant
or Militia Group e.g. Brilliant Mistake, Hot Rod Circuit, Dashboard Confessional
et al? Nothing.
