  Fan the Flames
Artist: Rex Carroll and Eden
Label: Retroactive Records

The moment the disc loads, the distinctive sound of Rex Carroll's guitar comes blasting out of the speakers. For a moment, one wonders if this is the missing Whitecross record.

That it's not, but it IS a decently-made '80s-metal-influenced album. It's chock-full of soaring guitar lines that make the rest of us wish we could move that fast. Rex's guitar assault only lets up for the
obligatory lighter-waving arena ballad, here appropriately enough the title track.

I don't know if the band will be able to hold up this standard live, without Rex Carroll. The songs are powerful, though, with plenty of metal crunch and great lyrics going for them, so this is an album and a band that could be going places.
