Us Against the World
Artist:  Spirit Creek
Label:  Emo Records
Length:  12 Tracks/49:00

Spirit Creek creates a powerful brand of earnest and emotional rock on these two CDs, the EP Call the Rain and their latest full-length project Us Against the World.  Built around the towering emotive vocals of singer and songwriter Doug Shea, Spirit Creek delivers powerful fist pumping arena rock goodness and some nice piano driven ballads.  The mission statement of the band to “create music for God, ourselves, and the listeners that grace us with their presence” is fulfilled in each heartfelt track of these independent releases.

Production is generally strong on the discs, and musically the band seems tight and capable of pounding out the power needed to back up Shea commanding vocals. Shea’s vocals are interesting and unique, and could be considered the bands biggest strength (or weakness, depending on your tastes).  But there is no denying that the band has a desire to share their faith and convictions in a bold manner.  Fans of bands such as Creed, Big Dismal, and Kutless will find much to enjoy on these discs.
