  Sad Songs for Sunshine
Artist: Theo Prince
Label: Independent
Length: 12/37:27

Theo Prince is the bandleader of Weapons of Mass Creation, a Seattle-based band.  This solo work is designed to be “softer” songs that didn’t fit into that band’s style.  Interestingly, Sad Songs for Sunshine almost fits into the “unplugged” mode, as if Prince were a hard rock or metal singer doing an acoustic set.  Vocally, Prince has some Seattle roots (think Cobain or The Pixies), but also some adult alternative influences (Glen Phillips, David Gray).  In other words, he tries a lot of methods.

“Lead Us On” and “Kissed By Love” were my personal picks here, followed by “Breathe” and “Sonja.”  I look forward to hearing Weapons of Mass Creation, if only to see if my theory about Prince’s vocals is correct.
