Christmas
an Irrational Season
Artist: Carolyn Arends Label: Independent URL: http://www.carolynarends.com Length: 13 Tracks / 46:40 Carolyn Arends is best known for her stint with Reunion Records. Since that stint ended, she has been recording independently and this is her first Christmas CD. By the time the listener is done with the prelude, it is obvious that this is a thinking person's Christmas project. This is a project that will make the listener think about the Christmas season and what it means. The prelude also helps set the stage for this CD as it shows off the folk sound of the album, mixed with strings from a traditional carol. This is not a project of traditional carols as there are only a few on this CD. Some songs also have original arrangements of traditional carols. The other songs on this CD are original and written by Carolyn Arends, except for "Christmas Must Be Tonight," which was written by Robbie Robertson in 1977. The songs on this album are songs that focus on more than just the obvious and really make the listener focus on things not normally considered such as the implications of the Christmas story. This is a thinking person's Christmas CD with its folk songs that also help the listeners contemplate the meaning and implications of the Christmas story. Burton Wray
