Disengage / Refractorchasm
Artist: Circle of Dust
Label: Retroactive Records
Url: www.retroactiverecords.cjb.net
Time: 16 Tracks / 63:53

Retroactive Records has delivered a real treat for fans of quality industrial music. Circle of Dust essentially is the brainchild of the exceedingly talented Klay Scott. The sampling and programming elements on this album are nothing short of phenomenal. The lyrics vary from faith, frustration, and life among other things. _Disengage_ was originally released in 1998 and this reissue includes all new digital recordings. In addition to the upgraded recordings, we get _Refractorchasm_ which are six different remixes of the incredible song “Refractor.” All sixteen songs are pretty solid but the stand out tracks are the instrumentals “Thulcandra” and “Perelandra.” When this album was originally released it was underappreciated, it was groundbreaking then and amidst the mostly unimaginative industrial scene today this album is still a breath of fresh air. The crunchy guitars, pulsating beats, and the visceral lyrics make for quite an engaging listen. The remixes alone are worth the price of this disc. They are high energy with multiple layers of sounds that the listener will discover something new with each listen.
