How to Believe
Artist: Mare Edstrom Label: Spiritone Records Length: 13/54:05 Mare Edstrom is a throwback to the folk singers of the '70’s, and occasionally bears a slight resemblance to Natalie Merchant on Learning How to Believe. “You’re No Train” is a slow traditional tune, while “Take Me By the Hand” sounds like 10,000 Maniacs as led by an American Idol reject. “Nobody Lives Without Love,” a Tonio K. cover, does not fare well here. Edstrom may be learning how to believe, but it would be preferable for her to learn how to find a producer. Brian A. Smith 1/4/2005
