Floodgate Hits 2005 Artist: Various Label: Floodgate Records Length: 6 Tracks/22.39 Minutes Some of the tastiest emo, art rock, and punky power-pop you can feast your ears upon today is available on Floodgate Records and the sampler _Floodgate Hits 2005_. Six chunks of modern rock goodness are served up hot and fresh on this lil’ compilation. Mourning September, Forever Changed, Yellow Second, Cool Hand Luke, Denison Marrs, and Number One Gun each have one cut on the record. 50% of the tunes on this CD are new to me; I have been digging Mourning September, Cool Hand Luke, and Denison Marrs for a while. I was pleasantly surprised by the rock attack of “Encounter” by Forever Changed, the catchy “Chance of Sunbreaks” by Yellow Second, and the emo-charged “Invest in You” from Number One Gun. The CD is a nice (albeit short) taste of some of the artists on the independent Floodgate Records, and it succeeds in its mission of provoking my interest in some of the other artists on their solid roster.
