Krystal Meyers Artist: Krystal Meyers http://www.anticonformity.net Label: Essential Records Length: 10 Tracks / 36:27 The past few years have seen several female pop stars embrace more of a rock sound, such as Jaci Velasquez and Joy Williams. Krystal Meyers, though, is one female vocalist who starts off rock and rocks hard. This is a project that had high expectations on it before it even released. By the time her debut album released, she was already enjoying her first #1 radio hit with the aptly titled "The Way to Begin." She is on Essential Records, home to powerhouses such as Jars of Clay and Caedmon's Call. So the question becomes, does this album live up to the expectations? Is the hype too high? The simple answer to the question is this: yes, it does live up to expectations. Some may be concerned that the album can't possible be too good or rock much since Krystal Meyers is still 16. She may be 16, but she can still rock with the best of them. Meyer's self-titled album opens up with the song that was also her first single, "The Way to Begin." This track may start off slow but has a chorus that rocks as much as any female vocalist has in at least several years. The second track, "My Savior" rocks just as much as the previous song and is one of the album's standout tracks. Other rocking songs include "Fire," "Fall to Pieces," and "Anticonformity." Meyers also manages to slow things down with songs like "Reflections of You" and "Lovely Traces." Krystal Meyers has managed to create an enjoyable debut CD that establishes her as one rocking female and she looks to be a favorite of rock fans for years to come. Burton Wray August 13, 2005
