Whispers
of His Grace
Artist: Chris Mercer Label: Edenwood Publishing Length: 10 Tracks/38:44 min. English Chris Mercer shows her passion for music variety on her CD Whispers of His Grace. She likes vintage rock, country, bluegrass, southern gospel and funk. Chris’s voice has a rough edge to it, and will make people think at times they’re listening to Pat Benatar singing country and bluegrass, although lacking in the passion, strength or fire that oozes from the vocals that is Pat Benatar. If you ever liked the trippy hallucinations from Jim Morrison’s songs, you’ll love her song, “The Bogeyman.” The chorus sings, “You’d better check your kitchen, you better check under the bed, no matter what the devil wants you to know, the bogeyman ain’t dead.” Not really a song to put your kids to sleep too. The final production of the CD is poor, that, or she likes bass and drums playing wildly, but not very loud. Chris’ lyrics and musical styles are such extremes of each genre that it is confusing to find them all on the same CD. Depending on which genre she chooses to sing, she’ll either be a semi-hit in the Christian country or Southern Gospel scene or set on the shelf named “Classic Rock.” Eccentric as it is, it could be a slight favorite with the 40-70’s age groups.
