Artist: Night Is Invisible Label: Lujo Records Length: 10 tracks / 50 minutes Offering up one heck of a mood-altering album, Night Is Invisible’s 1 is a sonic landscape of lush, electronic instrumentation. Featuring Nathan Burke of the late great Frodus, NII takes influence off some of the ambiance that Frodus once created, especially in their later days. This influence can also be seen in Burke’s other project, The Out-Circuit. The soundtrack-like album is almost completely instrumental, featuring sparse vocal samples put to good use. Said to focus on “’in-between’ moments in film where the camera pans subtly past a lonely street to reveal for mere seconds a flickering yellowed light and unknown shadows cast upon cracked concrete,” 1 is the perfect companion for a late night road trip. 1 isn’t perfect though. In places it does become laborious and slightly repetitive, but usually saves itself by the song’s end. Fans of Frodus and The Out-Circuit will probably enjoy this piece of the post-Frodus society, but it by no means lives up to the epic nature of what Frodus once created. Zach Delph 7/11/2005
