Seemingly So…
Artist: Patient Zero
Label: Crash Avenue
Length: 11 tracks / 32:17 min

With all of the copycat bands on the radio these days, it’s refreshing to hear something as unique as Patient Zero’s _Seemingly So…_  The closest comparison I can come up with is to some of Spin Doctors’ songs that never saw radio play.  While rightly embracing their unique style, the band members describe themselves as similar to “Radiohead, Incubus, Faith No More, or Yes, but with a more melodic, ‘jam band’ edge that is all their own.”

Patient Zero is definitely rock but with decided jazz influences.  Vocalist Christopher Sarvak freely moves to single high notes at unexpected times, which gives the band character.  The instrumentalists show the same versatility, moving from metal to jazz and everything in between.  Even the band’s hidden-track cover of Young MC’s “Bust a Move” is solid and entertaining.  The album is a little bit too jazzy for my personal tastes, but I give them high marks for musicianship and encourage anyone in the
Cincinnati area to check them out live.
