The Sinner’s Cry
Artist:  Saving Blue
Label:  Talking Music
Length:  13 Tracks/49:59

Sweden must have an interesting music scene…I keep hearing intriguing bands from these distant shores (the Flower Kings, Pain of Salvation to name a few).  Swedish import Saving Blue has delivered a captivating and moody CD of modern rock that fans of Cool Hand Luke, The Julianna Theory, Starflyer 59, and John Mayer will enjoy.  Believe it or not, fans of John Michael Talbot’s acoustic worship may enjoy the worship aspects of the project as well. The quartet’s brand of emotional, acoustic and electric daydream rock appeals to the eardrum and the simple, almost psalm-like lyrics will touch the soul.  Oh, and the lyrics are in English by the way.

The Sinner’s Cry begins with a mellow song of repentance and reunion titled “Long Time no See:”

Long time no see
There’s so much to catch up
This is a war too often lost
Oh I need to hear the voice of trust

I walked away
And I’m sorry
I turned my back
Forgive me

The atmospheric, lo-fi vibe of the project had me thinking that this was a cool chillin’ CD, but perhaps a tad too mellow for my tastes until cut 8 “Walk With Me Brother” kicked in. This song leads into a strong closing set with no weak offerings in the bunch.  The final two cuts close The Sinner’s Cry memorably with a heartfelt psalm “My Own 55,” and the quiet worship song “In the End.”
