  This Generation
Artist: Sonicflood
Label: INO
Length: 10/41:38

Somewhere between Caedmon’s Call, Newsboys, and Delirious? lies Sonicflood. Part modern rock, part worship band, the group has managed to carve out a niche in CCM that appeals to a wide range of audiences without pandering to the radio masses.  The songs here tend to blend together, as in a well done worship service, progressing from one to the next with seemingly no break.

The title track, “This Generation,” is the hit waiting to happen:

This is a call to worship
This is a call to sing
This is a call to fall down on our knees before the Risen King
This is a call to shout out
This is a call to praise
This is a call to lift our hearts, and hands, and voices…
At times, this album simply rocks.  “The Prodigal Song,” a tune about the decision of whether to blame God or trust Him, is great.  At others, such as “More than Anything,” it feels like Rick Heil and company are playing it safe.  The song builds, and just when you are ready to have it blow you away by rocking harder, it levels off and becomes formulaic.
