A Rock Band Saved My Life Last Night
Artist: The Story Changes
Label: Future Destination Records
URL: www.thestorychanges.com

If you’re looking for some straight ahead fully revved and ready to go punk rock, then this is the album for you. With _A Rock Band Saved My Life Last Night_ The Story Changes has blended together modern punk with heartfelt and deep lyrics. How many punk acts would have a line like, “you can’t find hope if you can’t find truth.” There are of course the required songs about lost or broken love that every punk band is obligated to crank out but The Story Changes includes a depth that sometimes is lacking in this genre of music. Their “love” songs are superficial songs about High School crushes, the love is expressed in more meaningful and lasting ways. Love that “defines” us. This band is not afraid to branch out to cover more controversial issues like politics and war. Check out “Apologies from the Swing State” a song that will assuredly make you examine our country more closely in its global context. All the songs are blistering rock tunes, save the tenth track, “Apologies Are Worthless” which is entirely acoustic and intimate. This song shows that this band is serious about songwriting because “Apologies” is well crafted song to the core. The CD closes on a high note entitled “Charm of Denial” three minutes of shimmering goodness. There is plenty to enjoy on this album if you are a punk enthusiast or enjoy high energy music that makes you think. Bravo to the boys from the Buckeye State you’ve made quite a statement with this record.
