Sarah Lentz Quartet
The Living Room, NYC
8/12/06

In the seven years since I was first introduced to the music of Brooklyn, New York based artist Sarah Lentz I have grown very fond of this young songwriters music as well as her performance capabilities. Very rarely does a week go by when I don't play one of her songs on my radio show. What can I say, I'm a big fan so it was with a sense of delight that I took the trek from Long Island into Manhattan last night to hear this songbird perform her latest tunes. Sarah usually plays with a rotating group of musicians but I would dare to say that last nights group was the best that I have ever seen her with. The group consisted of Sarah on piano and vocals,Sean McClowry on fret-less electric bass, Dan DeCriscio on drums & Adam Browne on accordion.

I am finding that the older that I get the less tolerance I have for musicians or bands who you can tell are just going through the motions. They are just there to collect a paycheck and give a lifeless performance devoid of any passion in their performances. Such was not the case during Sarah's twelve song set this evening nor for that matter has it ever been in the many times that I have had the pleasure to see her. Unfortunately, Sarah Lentz may never be a mega star or a household name but to this old DJ and to all of her many fans she defines everything that is cool about the independent  music scene in New York City. She is without a doubt the unrivaled queen of the New York indie music scene. No brag, just fact, I have been listening to rock n roll for over fifty years now and this woman is the real deal. Her passionate vocals, her interplay with the band members and the audience make for an unforgettable evening of music.

The set list include the following songs:
"By Your Side"
"Turn Around"
"Solo"
"Black Coffee"
"Jericho"
"Begin Again"
"The Fall"
"Killer Bee"
"Remain"
"For Love"
"Ste Free"
"Boomerang"
