Flushed Away Flushed Away is the new animated offering from Dreamworks about a sophisticated rat named Roddy (Hugh Jackman) who gets flushed away from his penthouse life down to the sewers of London. The plot revolves around him trying to make his way back up top with the aid of a cute tom-girl of a rat named Rita (Kate Winslet). Their plans are constantly interrupted by a scheming toad (Ian McKellen) and his henchman. This film looks amazing even if the story and plot are not up to Pixar par. Due to the large amount of scenes involving water the project is fully CGI, staying away from their trademark clay, stop motion animation. This gives a crisp clean image on every layer. The lines are full of wit and you find yourself laughing quite bit. Yet the story never really takes off. Not a huge issue when you are talking about risky rats and singing slugs but adults may find themselves losing interest from time to time. 86 minutes is a perfect length for this film and it stops just at the right moment. It's wild how far cartons have come and now we call them full length animated features. We find ourselves discussing the plot depth of two mice in a boat made of household objects. But that is what we have been spoiled to and so we expect the same results from mice as from men. Rated PG for crude humor and some language, Flushed Away is totally kid friendly. The scenes of action and peril are very mild and the slapstick is right up kid alley. The few lines and potty humor thrown to the adults is quick and if your kid even catches it will find it just as funny as the adults. Though not as fast paced and clever as this years earlier Over the Hedge, this is still a must see for all families. Rarely do opportunities come along for an entire family outing to the theater and this one will be enjoyed by all regardless if it doesn't becomes a main stay on all home DVD shelves.
