By The Grace Of God -- The Gospel Album
Artist: Hank Locklin
Label: Yell Records
length: 22 Songs/58 Minutes, 30 Seconds

The title of this CD is very befitting. The album has a very southern gospel feel to it that is reminiscent of the Gaither Vocal Band.

A number of the tunes on the album were penned by Locklin himself, who has a proven track record as a country singer. He is the writer of hits such as "Send Me The Pillow That You Dream On" and "Please Help Me I'm Falling (In Love With You) , " among other hits.

Locklin started his musical career in the 1940's and has continued it into 2006 - undoubtedly, this is an amazing feat for any musician. His voice still sounds strong on this album, and the tunes are uplifting.

Some of the instruments on the album are piano, guitar, dobro, saxophone, fiddle, mandolin, upright bass, and even some electric guitar. With such diverse instruments, one might think the album would sound bad, but that's not the case at all. The instrumentation is well balanced, and the music reminds one of something they might have heard back in the days when artists like Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, and George Jones were newer on the scene. It's easy to picture Locklin singing these tunes on a country variety show or even on a televised Billy Graham Crusade. Don't let that fool you, though. The album is very tasteful, and one that I would highly reccomend. Of course, I was raised listening to all of these artists, and I'm a sucker for a good southern gospel tune now and then.

Packed with lots of short songs, this album is proof that good things can indeed come in small packages.
