Humdrum EP
Artist: Scale Model

16 minutes/ 4 tracks

Scale Model follows up their 2005 debut with a short and sweet four-song ep.  Smart lyricism and Megan Rox’s poised and pretty vocals are the strong points of Scale Model’s music.  All four songs feature well-written, personal themes about heartache for lost love, breaking the chains of addiction and depression, and learning to accept and love those close to you (no matter their laundry habits).

Scale Model does a great job injecting their dreamy sound with propulsion and drive, which makes their music both calming and engaging, but there are moments where the music seems to float away a bit too easily on the gentle melodies and jangly guitars; a more defined core sound may still be needed overall.  But they certainly aren’t far away – this is a very nice second effort from Scale Model, and a proper full-length recording should be welcomed in this young indie-rock outfit’s future.
