Imogene
Artist: Imogene
Label: Independent
URL: www.imogene.info
Length: 12 tracks/ 49:02

Imogene’s debut is an experimental, psychedelic rock record with slight funk and R&B influences, with breathy lead vocals and keyboards scattered liberally over crunchy guitars and groovy melodies.  Lyrics seem to be a mix of nonsensical whimsy and dark, spiritual musing.

Though the eclectic mix of styles doesn’t always work the album openers “Sunny Day Child” and “Not To Be” don’t seem to gel their various musical elements together well, resulting in an unfortunately off-putting feel other songs are nothing short of satisfying, highlights including the creepy, oddly enjoyable “Paper Dolls,” possibly a good blueprint song for what the band is capable of accomplishing when at their best.

The band has a good sound that is plenty interesting, but what they need is a stronger batch of songs in the next release.  It’s worth keeping a tab on this band’s development, especially if you enjoy psychedelic, alternative rock.
