Jambi’s Revenge
Artist: Jambi’s Revenge
Label: Insanus
Length: 6 tracks / 23:03 min

Have you ever wanted to be a Transformer or date Smurfette?  Do you fear squirrels or feel sorry for dyslexic ghosts who can only say “Oob”?  Or do you just like to flat-out rock?  If your answer to any of these questions is “Yes,” then Jambi’s Revenge is for you.

Comprised of Justin DeTie (guitars) and Jim Calvert (drums) and produced by former Galactic Cowboys drummer Alan Doss, Jambi’s Revenge (presumably named after the genie from “Peewee’s Playhouse”) resurrects the old Cowboys heavy pop sound, but with even quirkier lyrics.  In “My Blue Valentine,” they croon to Smurfette, “Your love is very smurfy.  Ahhhh….  And I think you’re very groovy.  Ahhhh….”  In “Squirrels,” they are convinced that the furry creatures can read their minds.  “They know that I know.  The voices tell me so.”

The first four tracks can be heard on-line at http://www.myspace.com/jambisrevenge .  But the on-line version does not do justice, especially not to “Invasion,” a progressive-ambient-to-metal song about what happens when the sea monkeys rebel.  The CD version will be in serious contention for my record of the year.  With “Squirrels” another contender, that makes this a must-own album.  And at only $5 plus shipping each, it’s a steal.  The squirrels will know if you’re not listening.
