Whatever Befall
Artist: Maeve
Label: Independent
Tracks: 10/33:06

Boston based trio Maeve has just released their third project entitled Whatever Befall, in a year of some really great album releases should we take notice? Absolutely! I had the opportunity to see the group perform a few years ago at the All Angels Coffeehouse in New York City a few years ago and Immediately fell in love with what I was hearing. Two albums later and the magic spell of Maeve has only gotten stronger, and what a spell it is that they weave. Most female trio albums are boring and stale with one person taking the lead and the other two just doing backing vocals. Such is not the case here, if there are any Lost Dog fans here then you will understand the vocal complexities these girls, excuse me, women are capable of.

With the exception of a variation on "This Little Light of Mine" here called simply "Shine" and "Be Thou My Vision" all of the songs on the album are originals written by group members Rachel Taylor, Courtney Reid and Rollyn Zoubek. By the way all of the ladies have solo albums which you need to check out. The writing, playing, production and everything else on the album is top quality. The project, this time out, was produced by Khrusty Brothers member Don Chaffer and recorded at the Culture House in Kansas and mixed by Russ Long in Nashville.

The band as I said earlier are based out of Boston and tend to stay in the New England area for concert dates. Hopefully this album will bring them the attention that they so well deserve and therefore cause them to travel further abroad.
