Moody
Dipper
Artist: My Education Label: Thirty Ghosts Records Length: 7 tracks / 45:31 My Education returns with a new EP highlighting the band’s evolvement over their half-decade existence. Amiable pop melodies, hair-raising post-rock, traces of world music and experimental ambience sway together in seven intriguing and captivating instrumental tracks. The music is as variable as it could be without being a total mess or completely falling apart at the seams – instead, it’s constantly surprising, taking the listener on unexpected twists and unpredictable new heights that only seem to get more impressive over repeated listens. “Green Arrow” features subdued string sections that are steadily layered over several minutes with drums and electronic beats that rise into an exciting climax before lilting into the psychedelic post-rock of “Red Sparowes: Snake in the Grass”, which itself drops into an avant-country cacophony in its latter third. There isn’t a standout track here, though the band itself certainly stands out as an excellent instrumental act. _Moody Dipper_ is a great EP, and should more than satisfy listeners until their forthcoming LP is completed.
