Sacred
Weapon
Artist:Nils Lofgren Label: Indie Length: 12 tracks /40:45 URL: http://www.nilslofgren.com He has been in bands with Neil Young, Grin, Bruce Springsteen. He has over 30 albums of his own. He has worked with Stephen Stills, Tim Curry, Rod Stewart, Bob Seger, Ringo Starr, Carl Perkins, and Bradford Marsalis to name just a few. Nils Lofgren approaches legendary status as a guitar player and performer/ Sacred Weapon could be his best solo project in years. Ample portions of rock, pop, Americana, and even some funk are featured here. "Opener “In Your Hand” and
“Comfort Your Love Brings” are love songs, fully spiritual, completely
amorous. For a wife, a lover, a belief system? Traditional American music
with gentle guitar washes, atmospheric piano and strings. Willie Nelson
joins Lofgren on “In Your Hand.”
“Fat Girls Dance,” proclaiming that love is the sacred weapon, features the smokey, snakey lead guitar that is signature Lofgren. More of the same with “Pay Your Woman” and “Can’t Take The Rock,” while lyrically featuring Lofgren’s subtle sense of humor. The prize of this batch is “You’re Not There.” Reminiscent of Young’s epics in musical intensity from the outset, this is a story of love lost leaving the end result up to conjecture. There is fiery confusion in Lofgren’s lead guitar solos. Lofgren is in great voice
throughout. He plays most of the instruments and is joined by David Crosby,
Graham Nash, Mary Ann Redmond. and Grin compatriots Bob Berberich and Tom
Lofgren. Lofgren's musical tale is something of a sad one. He has made
some marvelous music over the years, but is always never heard on the radio..
A sad fate for such a talented man.
