Invitation
Artist: Brett Rush
Label: Indie
Length: 11 Tracks/44:06 min.

Brett Rush has a lot of shoes to fill.  He’s a Pastor, song leader, and a singer/songwriter.  His vocals are strong and edgy- yet smooth and deep.  He claims his influences as Mac Powell (Third Day) and Jeremy Camp.   Brett’s CD, will definitely be welcomed by churches, but not to the secular listener’s ears.  The lyrics are very cliché-Christian words, not making any sense to someone who doesn’t understand “church-y language”.  He uses three part harmonies a little excessively, and soon becomes a mundane droning sound as he’s clearly using his own voice for the background vocals which doesn’t offer much variety.  Brett sounds a lot like Jeremy Camp with a hint of a Southern Gospel style like the Gaither Vocal Band.  He has so much potential, and musically the album is great, but the lyrics sound like phrases taken from popular praise & worship songs.  Perhaps the second album from Brett Rush will offer some more spiritual substance, and more originality.
