First Impression
Artist: Shundi
Label: Independent
Length: 17 tracks/67:14

Chicago Raashon "Shudi" Daniels was raised in a God fearing family under the musical influence of Run DMC, LL Cool J, and the like. He began writing rhymes early in his life but never took it too seriously until his life changing experience with Lord.

First Impression, his first solo project, follows years of various local groups (Tribe of Judah,Nazir) and performances.  It is loaded with creative wordplay, catchy hooks and sharp samples. "Enter the Drunken Master" is the spoken story of Shundi's call to ministry-sort of like Bruce Lee meets Booger Presley.

Much diversity in sound here. There is a decidedly international feel to many of the tracks "Clapp" and "The Payground" have  Spanish feel. Several tracks give a Middle Eastern tip while others have an electronic bend. And some nice straight R & B sounds, too.

In light of the word strength of the album, especially "Playground' and "You've Been Deceived," there are a couple throwaways. "Goodbye" sounds like it was created just to end the album and "Benediction-The Skit" is just annoying.

Quite entertaining.
