The Corner of an Unlit World
Artist:  Jesse Sprinkle
Label: Blind Records
Time: 50:58

Jesse Sprinkle has either cloned himself, or he's a workaholic. As I write this, I have three projects (this solo, a new CD from a band he's in, and another album that he produced) that he's involved in sitting on my desk. He is also the co-owner of a record studio, venue, and record label.

This CD showcases the softer side of Jesse Sprinkle. Mainly acoustic sounds make for a pleasant listening experience. Other than the cello, and a some guitar work on a few songs, the multi talented Sprinkle plays all the instruments on the entire album. The lyrics are beautifully written poetry. All songs on the CD were written by Jesse except for “Jimmy” by Gene Eugene.

“A Tale of Unrevealed Desire” is a haunting song. The sounds of a storm and the music overpower the whispered lyrics. Unfortunately, there is no lyric sheet in the CD cover. Here's what I think the lyrics say. Whatever it is, it sure is thought provoking.

Run away little boy if you want to be free
There is no freedom except inside
Where you're alone and you can hide
What they drill through your head every day
Poison your freedom and burn it away
Until they've destroyed what they can't take
And turning your flesh a pale gray
You become one of them if you don't stay away

The Corner of an Unlit World is another solid chapter in the musical life of Jesse Sprinkle. Here's hoping that there's more where this came from.
