Beauty in the Broken
Artist: Starfield
Label: Sparrow Records
Length:  11 Tracks/50.55Minutes
I am not my own
I have been erased
Like a canvas washed
By the strokes, the strokes of Grace

This obsession is my call…

Starfield shines brightly on Beauty in the Broken, a CD full of melodic and impressive praise pop-rockers. Broken features eleven cuts of satisfying and soulful anthems ranging in style from rockers to acoustic ballads, all wrapped up in solid production by Ed Cash (Chris Tomlin, David Crowder Band, Caedmon’s Call) and Matt Bronleewe (Jars of Clay, Natalie Imbruglia). Highlights include the powerful opening cry of "My Generation," the acoustic praise prayer "Captivate," and the excellent "Obsession." While the heavenward lyrics on Beauty in the Broken are strong and clear, the band Starfield also has the musical chops to back up their bold statements with equally bold hooks and instrumental touches (check out the full-frontal guitar attack and tasty bass solo on "My Generation," the ethereal/haunting keyboard bed on "Obsession," and the crazy good drumming all over the CD). And vocalist Tim Neufeld deserves mention for propelling Beauty in the Broken with an impressive and passionate vocal performance. Modern rock worship fans and those who love Switchfoot, Mercy Me, Delirious?, and even Coldplay will enjoy Starfield's shining moments captured on Beauty in the Broken.
