Have you ever noticed there
are a billion and one Christmas related songs, yet very few if any Thanksgiving
related songs? I’m having a hard time coming up with one song that relates
directly to the events of Thanksgiving. Sure there are quite a few songs
that give thanks and praise, but are there any that relate directly to
the day? Hmm. What is beyond this? Of course, a lot of songs that relate
directly to the events surrounding Christmas are hymn and/or religious
derived, and Thanksgiving doesn’t share that religious quality. Christmas
songs revolve around celebration of a wondrous event! The event of Thanksgiving
is, shall we say, a little murkier in its history. Are we ashamed of this
time? Is Thanksgiving really the country’s great shame? Hey, I’m just thinking
out loud. Anyhow, it ‘is’ something to think about, isn’t it? Not to say
we all don’t have something to be thankful for in this amazing country
of ours. There’s definitely a lesson though in here!
We’re on the run-up to Christmas
and there’s tons of music and movies yet to come out. The pick of the crop
for me though, is the 20th anniversary of U2’s Joshua Tree DVD recorded
live in Paris in 1987. The Joshua Tree will be re-released in all
of its glory on November 20th.
